Competition Detail


  • Monday is the designated day for Napier and Hastings.


  • Term 2 Competition begins Monday 13th May 2024 through to 1st July 2024 (7 weeks due to King’s Birthday – Monday 3 June)


  • Term 3 Competition begins Monday 29 July 2024 thought to 16th September 2024 (8 weeks)


  • HB Secondary School Individual Championships - Monday 23rd September 2024. One day tournament run during school time.


  • Four people in a team, therefore each tie consists of 4 matches.  Some teams were struggling to field 4 players, you can always rotate the team so everyone gets equal court time.


  • Squash Eastern will assign Napier and Hastings schools to their respective cities .


  • Squash Eastern will have a Coordinator set up at each venue to open the Club, show everyone the facilities, provide information about that Club, provide marking sheets and balls, ring the bell for competition timing and to collate the results for the HBSS Co-Ordinator at the end of the round.



The competition will run at two different venues


  • Hawkes Bay Lawn Tennis & Squash Club - 13 Higgins Street, Marewa, Napier


  • Hastings Squash Club - 611 Whitehead Road, St Leonard's, Hastings



Playing Details


Playing times commence at 3.45pm sharp. Please ensure players turn up at least 10 minutes prior.


  • Games will run for 15 minutes with a 3 minute warm up each


  • The person with the most points at the end of the game wins


  • Team results will be based on the matches won
  • 2 Points for a win
  • 0 Points for a loss


  • The competition will be run in two Divisions which will be based on the level of the players in each team, rather than Senior and Junior.  Therefore form your teams accordingly.
  • Division One - For players who currently play squash
  • Division Two - For players who are new to the game



Entry Fees 


  • $95 per team 4 players play per week, we encourage teams to have reserves.  This includes:
  • A Term Based competition, including finals (depending on number of entries)
  • Venue costs
  • Administration costs
  • Venue Coordinator


  • There will be a separate entry fee for the HB Secondary School Individual Squash competition to be held following the conclusion of the Teams Event; venue to be advised. This will be charged at $5 per player.



Player Attire & Etiquette


All Squash players and supporters are required to:


  • Wear clean sports clothing and non-marking sport footwear


  • Act with respect towards themselves, the opposition, the equipment and the venue


  • WHERE RULES DON’T PRE- EXIST - ACT WITH RESPECT AT ALL TIMES.


  • Play safely ensuring their swing is safe and by getting out of the way for the opponent to allow them to play safely. Call LETS as appropriate.


  • Loud aggressive or vulgar language, gesturing or behavior will not be tolerated and shall result in immediate loss of the match.


  • Have a fair warm up, hitting only a couple of hits to self and then over to opponent.


  • Start playing as soon as two players of the same level are ready.


  • Safety eyewear is compulsory.  Glasses will be available for loan at the clubs.
